Fisheries utilize Allison transmissions in live fish transport, marking further growth in the Korean Specialty Market

SEOUL, South Korea – Nov. 25, 2019 – Yongjin Fisheries operates five-ton live fish transport trucks in Jeju, and Baek Cheol-yong, CEO of the company, introduced trucks with Allison fully automatic transmissions in 2011. “Allison Automatics are the safest, most convenient, cost-effective and durable,” says Baek.

Live fish transport trucks require high torque because of the water in the tanks, and Allison Automatics enable high torque through timely speed changes. Baek applauds this attribute as a contribution to the trucks’ fuel efficiency.

"All in all, we have enjoyed an improvement of about ten percent in fuel efficiency compared with manual or automated manual transmissions," said Baek.

To achieve further growth in the Korean Specialty Market, Allison Transmission Korea announced today that it would increase its leadership in the market. Having long taken a firm grip on such vocational applications as fire & emergency, defense, municipal and service, Allison Transmission Korea plans to focus on refuse, crane, live fish transport trucks and more where the Korean market has potential to grow.

While the manual clutch pedal is gone in an automated manual transmission (AMT), a mechanical clutch still facilitates the vehicle’s launch. This mechanical clutch will wear and eventually burn out and need traditional maintenance and replacement, which means a vehicle spends more time for repair and less time on the road.

Allison Automatics are unique because the patented torque converter experiences very little wear. Allison transmissions require only periodic fluid and filter changes to maintain peak performance.
